THE WILLIAM WALLACE MONUMENT

18/12/2023

Today we drove to the Falkirk Wheel, the Falkirk Wheel is like a ferris wheel for boats! A boat would sail on a man made river to the top of the boat-ferris wheel and then sail into the top compartment. A boat would also sail into the bottom compartment. Then the boat-ferris wheel would turn so that the bottom boat would become the top boat and sail out onto the man-made river. The top boat would then do the same.

The Falkirk Wheel sadly wasn’t going, so we couldn’t see it. We walked around the Falkirk Wheel and saw the man made river. We couldn’t go into the ‘museum’ because you had to pay for tickets but mum said; “you can see it and how it works just as well from here!”

After a while we drove to the MASSIVE statues of the Kelpies. Kelpies are horses that live in the sea with fish tails and flippers, they also pull Poseidon's carriage. The people who had made the statues, had only made the heads, so you couldn’t see what their body looked like.

After spending a while admiring the Kelpies, and making sure dad didn’t try and fake push me in the pool again, we left to go to the William Wallace monument.

The William Wallace monument is a tower on a very steep hill that is 154 years old. (The William Wallace monument, not the hill) We walked up the very steep and narrow 254 steps to the top. There were three levels but most of the stuff inside them were games. One of the games was to design our own shield.

We did learn that William Wallace led two armies to battle, he won one, but lost one as well. We saw William Wallace’s sword, it was quite long, the information board said that William Wallace must have been well over six feet tall to wield such a weapon. We walked to the top, it was blowing a gale! We had a good view and could see lots of houses and hills.

It was a fun day!
